This is an informal Hurling event hosted by the Knoxville Gaelic Athletic Club and the Knoxville Irish Society. It is open to the public: anyone interested in watching Irish sports, playing Irish sports, or celebrating Irish traditions. It is also open to any GAA clubs or individual club members who would like to participate.
It will be at Sam Duff Memorial Park with matches starting at noon. We have the park reserved starting at 10:00 AM, so feel free to come out beforehand if you’d like to learn more about the sport. We’ll see how many teams we can put together and hopefully everyone will get a chance to play twice. In addition to the matches, individual puck out, soloing, and penalty shot contests. We suggest you bring you own lawn chair, water, and pop-up shelter. The Hurling will be done by 3:00 PM.
There will be Afters at Clancy’s Irish Tavern immediately following hurling until around 5:00, with a family-friendly atmosphere and some nice traditional Irish fare for lunch.
At 5:00 PM, the Knoxville Irish Society is hosting a Samhain (pr. Saw-when) celebration just down the road at Bar Marley’s with Bonfires, Irish music, some education, and even more traditional Irish grub. Everyone is invited to get the full Samhain experience by joining in this event as well. Here’s a link for the event:
