Play Hurling Club Takeover

Since 2018, one North American club has taken over the Play Hurling social media accounts for one week each month.

What clubs have taken over the Play Hurling social accounts?

January 2018 – Tampa Bay GAA

The very first club to participate in the club takeover was Tampa Bay GAA, who hosted the 8th Annual Florida Cup on January 13th 2018 featuring teams from Florida, Wisconsin, Illinois, Louisiana, and Georgia.

February/March 2018 – Hurling Club of Madison

Hurling Club of Madison took over the accounts in February/March 2018, where they shared live streams of their winter indoor league.

March 2018 – Nashville GAC

Nashville Gaelic Athletic Club took over in March while hosting the 4th Annual Music City Invitational on March 24th, 2018.

April 2018 – Austin’s Celtic Cowboys

Austin’s Celtic Cowboys took over in April while hosting the Austin Gaelic Games Experience on April 14th, 2018.

May 2018 – San Diego Na Fianna Camogie

San Diego Na Fianna Camogie took over in May 2018 in the lead up to West Coast Sevens in San Diego.

June 2018 – ROC City Hurling & Camogie

Roc City Hurling and Roc City Camogie took over in June 2018. Roc City Hurling was started in 2013, with their first season in the summer of 2014. Since then, they have gone from strength to strength in growing the hurling and camogie community in Rochester, N.Y.

July 2018 – Coastal Virginia GAA

Coastal Virginia GAA took over in July 2018 and provided coverage of the 2018 Coastal Virginia Cup

August 2018 – Montreal Shamrocks GAC

In August, the oldest GAA club in Canada, Montreal Shamrocks GAC, took over the Play Hurling social media accounts who celebrated their 70th Anniversary.

August/September 2018 – Philadelphia Hurling and Camogie Club

Philadelphia Hurling and Camogie Club took over in August / September in lead up to the USGAA Finals 2018.

September 2018 – Charleston Hurling Club

Charleston Hurling Club took over in September while they hosted the 6th Annual Holy City Cup where athletes competed from across the Southeast USA.

Charleston Hurling Club were founded on October 18, 2011 and became a formal club the following spring.

October 2018 – Knoxville GAC

Knoxville Gaelic Athletic Club took over in October while hosting the 3rd Annual Knoxville Samhain Hurling Invitational on October 27th 2018.

Knoxville GAC was founded in 2014 when the Knoxville Army Reserve was looking for a form of alternative physical training. The coach had visited Croke Park and when he discovered hurling, he said: “You know what, this is a warriors game, I think we can do this!” During their drills, they would spend 2 hours playing hurling.

At the end of 2016, we got the opportunity to chat with Patrick Shower, Benjamin Conaway, and Seth Ingebrigtson as part of the mini-documentary, “Hurling Across The USA”.

November 2018 – Augusta GAC

Augusta Gaelic Sports Club took over in November while hosting the 7th Annual Azalea Cup Hurling Invitational featuring Charleston Hurling Club, Nashville Gaelic Athletic Club, and a combined team from Florida.

November / December 2018 – New York GAA

New York GAA took over in November / December. New York GAA are doing exceptional work raising the next generation of American hurlers and camogie players.
