Hurling in American Media

Hurling has been featured in a couple of American media outlets recently. On TV, on the radio, and in film.

Legends of the Hidden Temple

On TV, hurling was featured on the reboot of the iconic 90s gameshow, Legends of the Hidden Temple.

PlayHurling.com was more than happy to provide the equipment to the production team to make this happen.

The episode revolved around the mythology of Cú Chulainn and hurling was included as one of the physical challenges.

John Kincade Show

Hurling was also featured on the radio in Philadelphia. The John Kincade Show on 97.5 The Fanatic had a bit of a discussion about hurling on their morning show.

Riverdance: The Movie

Hurling was featured in the animated film Riverdance. It was initially released in UK and Ireland in May 2021 on Sky Cinema and it’ll be released on the US Netflix on January 14th 2022.

NCGAA Central Tournament

In US College news, the NCGAA Central Hurling Championships were held at the University of Notre Dame in November.

College hurling teams from Notre Dame, UConn, Indiana University, University of Pittsburgh, and Purdue University competed in this one day championship.

Congrats to Notre Dame GAA for winning and hosting the tournament!

NCGAA Southeast Tournament

The 2021 NCGAA Southeast Hurling Championships were held at The Catholic University of America in DC in November. Mike from CUA Hurling talks about their tournament and their 2022 plans.

New Hurling / Camogie Clubs

Colo, a former New York Liberty Gaels player recently moved to O’ahu, Hawai’i and is looking to start a club.

Currently there are no GAA clubs in Hawaii and Colo plans to be the first to start a club.

2022 Hurling Tournaments

Looking into the new year, there are a few confirmed tournaments in 2022.

Jan 15: Tampa Bay GAA are hosting the Suncoast 7s Hurling Tournament. Email to sign up – [email protected]

Feb 5 & 6: Los Angeles Hurling Club and Cougars GAA are hosting a Poc Fada on the Beach and GAA Day.

Mar 5: Charleston Hurling Club are hosting a tournament in South Carolina.

July 16-17: Calgary Chieftains GAA are planning to host their annual Stampede Cup on 16th and 17th July, 2022. 2 days of Gaelic Games during the greatest outdoor show on earth.

Aug 19-21: USGAA Finals will be held in Chicago.

Sept 17: Midwest Tournament in Madison.
