ESPN Hosts Try Hurling
Hurling was featured on ESPN College GameDay! The hosts of the show tried hurling on air at Parnell Park in Dublin.
27,000 US tourists visited Dublin for the weekend, and 2 million Americans tuned in to watch the broadcast, resulting in this spike in Google searches for ‘hurling’.
After the success of the NCGAA College Hurling Finals in March 2024, ESPN are keen to televise more hurling matches. They’ve signed a deal to broadcast the NCGAA College Finals on March 17, 2025.
Canadian National Championships (CNC)
In BC, the Canadian National Championships (CNC 2024) were hosted in Vancouver. Teams from across Canada and a team from New York gathered at Burnaby Lakes for the largest CNC to date. Several hard-fought matches went down to the wire, ending in penalty shootouts.
Hurling At Baseball Games
Hurling was featured as the first pitch at several baseball games across the USA in August. This is a fantastic way to promote your club and the sport of hurling to baseball fans.
New York Hurling Finals
In New York, the senior, junior, and novice hurling finals were held in Gaelic Park in the Bronx.
In the Senior and Junior Hurling Finals, Tipperary New York won. In the Novice hurling final, which is the American-born division, Shannon Gaels NYC won.
Vancouver Geese News (Formerly Bear News)
In Geese News, formerly Bear News, Vancouver clubs were interrupted for a third time. The first two times were by bears, this time by geese. What animal should visit them next? Comment below!
USGAA Finals
In California, the USGAA Finals were held in San Francisco. Over 100 North American clubs competed, with local San Francisco teams sweeping the finals with wins in the senior camogie, senior hurling, intermediate hurling, and junior B hurling.
We caught up with Wayne Walsh from Tipperary Hurling Club San Francisco, who won the senior hurling final.
The Hurler Movie Release in the USA
In Missouri, The Hurler movie premiered at the Kansas City Irish Fest at the end of August.
The Hurler: A Campion’s Tale is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video in Ireland and the UK, with plans to release globally soon.
