Hurling The First Pitch At Baseball Games
Hurling was featured as the first pitch at two baseball games in April.
In Tennessee, Memphis GAA pucked the first pitch at a Redbirds game.
And in North Carolina, Red Wolves Hurling Club continued their annual tradition by pucking the first pitch at a Cannon Ballers game.
Coming up in June, Raleigh GAA will be pucking the first pitch at a Holly Springs Salamanders baseball game.
This is becoming a trend across the USA and was all started by Montana’s Thomas Meagher Hurling Club in September 2022.
This is a great way to promote hurling to local baseball fans! Should your club be next?
New York Camogie 7’s
New York Camogie hosted its first ever 7-a-side tournament on April 20th to kick off the 2024 season.
Annie Moore’s won in the senior division, Liberty Gaels won in the intermediate, and Rockland GAA won in the junior division.
Philadelphia 7’s
In Pennsylvania, Philadelphia GAA hosted the Philly 7’s tournament. The tournament included hurling, camogie, and several college teams. Virginia’s Richmond Battery won in the hurling and Philadelphia’s Na Tóraidhe won in the camogie.
Kevin Barry Hurling Tournament
In Connecticut, Hartford GAA hosted clubs from across the region for the Kevin Barry Hurling Tournament. Teams from New England and beyond participated with Hartford GAA winning the tournament.
Aidan McGarry Memorial Tournament
In Texas, the Celtic Cowboys hosted the first annual Aidan McGarry Memorial Tournament. Hurling and camogie teams across Texas came together to celebrate the life of Aidan McGarry and his dedication to the Celtic Cowboys.
Give This Person A Hurl
For our segment, Give This Person A Hurl, here’s Kylie Kelce playing field hockey with a few members of the Olympic team.
Now you might think it’s my mission to get the entire Kelce family playing hurling and camogie, and you would be correct!
Kylie’s husband, Jason Kelce, tried hurling with Philadelphia Na Tóraidhe in 2019, and the same Olympic team she tried field hockey with, tried camogie in 2023.
So, we think it’s Kylie’s turn to try camogie! Philadelphia Na Tóraidhe currently have an open offer for Kylie to try camogie. So Kylie and Jason, if you’re interested let us know!
They Gave Them A Hurl
In our other segment, They Gave Them A Hurl, here’s the Northampton Saints rugby team giving hurling a go.
Photo of the Month
April’s Photo of the Month goes to this photo from the 1924 Tailteann Games, which is possibly the first-ever Ireland vs USA hurling match.
Video of the Month
April’s Video of the Month goes to Vancouver Cú Chulainn for their video of the Friday Night Lights Tournament.
Club of the Month
April’s Club of the Month goes to Charleston Hurling Club who hosted South Carolina’s Holy City Cup.
A special thanks to Brian from Charleston Hurling Club for taking over our social media accounts.
During their takeover week, they shared hurling memes, player profiles, and highlights of the 11th Annual Holy City Cup. It was the largest Holy City Cup to date, with 100 players from 7 teams competing.
